Habitat house to be dedicated July 19

Habitat house, 901 W. WashingtonHeart of Iowa Habitat for Humanity will dedicate a fully-renovated home in Jefferson Sunday, July 19, at 1:30 pm. Work on the home, located at 901 W. Washington St, will be dedicated to the family of Justin and Megan Saffell.

With hundreds of their own sweat equity hours invested working alongside countless volunteers, the Saffells and their two children, Rylie and Paxton, are more than ready to move into the home.

The entire community is invited and encouraged to join the July 19 celebration.  The home will be open for tours before and after a short program, and refreshments will be served by volunteers from The Sanctuary, a Christian congregation in Jefferson.

The home was acquired in late 2014 and has gone through extensive renovation including kitchen and bathroom remodel, new flooring throughout, interior and exterior painting, updated plumbing, electrical, heating and cooling, plus new concrete driveway and sidewalks.  Much of the work was done by volunteer labor provided through Greene County churches, with students in the Greene County High School building trades program also taking part.

As with all Habitat families, the Saffell family is income-qualified and will pay for their home through a zero-interest mortgage with affordable monthly payments.  It is this hand-up approach that allows homeowners to maintain pride while helping to assure additional families have the same opportunity through Habitat for Humanity for many years to come.

Habitat for Humanity is a nonprofit Christian ministry dedicated to eliminating substandard and poverty housing.  All persons are welcome as partner families and volunteers regardless of religious beliefs or affiliations.
